About Banepa

Here are some of the acheivements of Namste Banepa so far...

Since 1998 we have put, and kept, 45 children in to school.

Four of our children have completed their schooling. One is attending college, one is working in the local hospital, one is working privately for the hospital director and his wife and one is currently applying for further education.

With our attendance monitoring system we know our children attend school regularly.

We have raised the level of awareness in the surrounding villages as to the importance of education.

We have also brought about the beginnings of changes in attitudes to the issues of caste and gender.

Though our efforts teacher have been motivated to become more pro-active in the classroom.

And, as we believe in sending our children to government schools, we are supporting the government education system, which, while needing dramatic re-thinking, is the only hope for those who cannot afford to go to private fee paying schools.

Together lets break the circle of illiteracy and poverty.

"The Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations in 1989 reaffirms that all children have rights that must be respected, protected and promoted. Article 28 states that "All children have a right to education". In some places around the world, this just does not happen."
