Shree
is 13 and attends Shree Jan Joyti Secondary School. Only one
of her three sisters attends school and her brother attends
a private school, demonstrating the belief that the education
of girls has little value when compared to boys. If it was
not for Namaste Banepa Shree and her sister would not be able
to attend school and would go through life being illiterate
like their parents.
"The
Convention on the Rights of the Child
adopted by the United Nations in 1989 reaffirms
that all children have rights that must be respected,
protected and promoted. Article 28 states that
"All children have a right to education".
In some places around the world, this just does
not happen."
